In our continuing Employee Spotlight series, this month we are featuring our Staff Manager, Maria Canizales. Maria has been with Burgos and Associates since December of 2007 and since she has worn many hats. Maria started as a receptionist, got promoted to be a legal assistant for two of our attorneys and now she is the assistant to the owner, Cesar Burgos, staff manager, official translator and is always assisting with any projects that she can.

Q & A WITH MARIA CANIZALES

Where are you from? 

I am from Honduras. I moved to New Orleans with my mom when I was 7 years old.

What three words would you use to describe your role?

Leadership, commitment and problem solving.

What is the best part about working at Burgos and Associates?

My boss, Cesar Burgos.

What’s an accomplishment that you’re the most proud of working at Burgos and Associates?

I am proud to be the manager of an awesome group of people.

What is the one thing you would like a person who needs an attorney to know?

Not to wait until the last minute to look for one. Everyone regardless of their status or language , should have an attorney. Also, don’t be scared of calling an attorney, we are here to help you solve your problems.

Can you give the readers a fun fact about yourself?

I was the first woman president of the oldest all men soccer league in Louisiana.

Bonus question: If you could have any superpower what would it be?

I would like to be fast as lightning.
